Question Network Magic Does Not Detect Internet Connection

I have used NM 4.0 successfully and finally decided to update to 4.9. My main PC is using Windows XP Pro and has a wired connection to the Linksys WRT 54G router. Upon installation of 4.9 I was being told I am not connected to the internet. I am connected - I'm online right now. I uninstalled on all computers and re-installed the CD version of 4.0, but I am stuck in the same spot. I cannot use NM until it recognizes that I am connected to the internet.
I also have McAfee firewall, but again the software worked previously in this environment.

Hi Taxman1959,

As you said, Network Magic works fine. You can run Network Magic 4.9.8225.0-Pure0 just fine. However, since you have not upgraded with each newer version, you need to completely uninstall Network Magic 4.0 including the seperate drivers for Pure Networks Drivers that are seperately listed in Add or Remove Programs in Windows XP Versions.

Reboot the computer and then install Network Magic 4.9 version.

Default you're giving stock answers

I have now removed and double-checked for any sign of previous versions of Network Magic on any of the three computers. I then tried to install 4.9. on my desktop It looks like a good install. - It just continues to tell my desktop PC it is not connected to the internet when it is most assuredly connected to the internet. The "troubleshoot" is rudimentary - everything is plugged in and I have status of online all over my xp system.

The software is clearly the problem - is there a fix?

Default Why is 4.9 a trial?

I got NM up and working on the first notebook. But now it is telling me it is a seven day trial. I thought it was an update? Will I need to locate my key from 4.1 to maintain the 4.9?

NM recognizes the wireless connection to the internet by the notebook, but still refuses to acknowledge the simple wired connection by the desktop.

this software is supposed to simplify networking. Updating the software is anything but simple.

Hi Taxman1959,

See this post: http://forums.purenetworks.com/showthread.php?t=2356

Post back with requested information, so I don't guess.

The same key you had for 4.0 works through version 4.9.

You only need to type in the Network License Key, once, then use the Network Map to activate the other copies, once you are connected again to the Router.

Hi Taxman1959,

I sent you a Private Message (PM).

Did you disable the Router portion of the Westell 2200, when you added the Linksys Router?

Hi Taxman1959,

Answering PM here, because of attachment. Attachment is a Wired Computer's Network Connection Folder. It only has one Network Connection. The Network Adapter is an onboard motherboard Ethernet Connection.

Default Reset all Network Connections?

I have a feeling that for a variety of reasons, I should just re-configure the desktop PC's entire network connection scheme.

Here is all I want as an end result:
1. Connect Desktop, Notebook 1 and Notebook 2 to Verizon through one gateway - access point being the WRT54G router.
2. Share files and my printer using Network Magic.
3. Keep it so my wife and kids can get online with one click and not have to understand networks or routers.

In spite of odd available connections on my Windows XP Network, I am able to achieve 1 and 3.

Should I disable the 1394 connection? Should I wipe out all of the connections and then restart the installation of the router and the Westell gateway?

I can't get to the router's web based utility using 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. I downloaded a firmware update but I can't install it without getting into the web based utility.

I am not aware of how to "physically" reset anything to do with the Westell DSL gateway.

Thanks

Default Thanks - problem was in the router.

I reconfigured my router and DSL connection and Network Magic is now functioning properly.
